ENZYME entry: EC 1.13.11.2
| Accepted Name |
| Catechol 2,3-dioxygenase.
|
| Alternative Name(s) |
| 2,3-pyrocatechase. |
| Cato2ase. |
| Metapyrocatechase. |
| Reaction catalysed |
| Catechol + O(2) <=> 2-hydroxymuconate semialdehyde |
| Cofactor(s) |
| Iron.
|
| Comment(s) |
- The enzyme from Alcaligenes sp. strain O-1 has also been shown to
catalyze the reaction: 2,3-dihydroxybenzenesulfonate + O(2) + H(2)O =
2-hydroxymuconate + bisulfite and has been referred to as 2,3-
dihydroxybenzenesulfonate 2,3-dioxygenase.
- Further work will be necessary to show whether or not this is a
distinct enzyme.
- Formerly EC 1.13.1.2.
