ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 1.14.14.73

Accepted Name
albendazole monooxygenase (sufoxide-forming)
Alternative Name(s)
albendazole hydroxylase
albendazole sulfoxidase
CYP1A2
CYP2J2
CYP3A4
Reaction catalysed
  • albendazole + O2 + reduced [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] <=> albendazole S-oxide + H(+) + H2O + oxidized [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase]
  • fenbendazole + O2 + reduced [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] <=> fenbendazole S-oxide + H(+) + H2O + oxidized [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase]
Comment(s)
  • This is one of the activities carried out by some microsomal cytochrome P450 monooxygenases.
  • A similar conversion is also carried out by a different microsomal enzyme (EC 1.14.13.32), but it is estimated that cytochrome P450s are responsible for 70% of the activity.
