ENZYME entry: EC 1.14.14.75

Accepted Name
fenbendazole monooxygenase (4'-hydroxylating)
Alternative Name(s)
CYP2C19
Reaction catalysed
fenbendazole + O2 + reduced [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] <=> 4'-hydroxyfenbendazole + H(+) + H2O + oxidized [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase]
Comment(s)
  • CYP2C19 is microsomal cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that catalyzes the hydroxylation of the benzene ring of fenbendazole, a broad- spectrum anthelmintic used against gastrointestinal nematodes and the larval stages of cestodes.
  • This activity is also carried out by CYP2J2. cf. EC 1.14.14.74.
  • CYP2C19 does not act on albendazole.
