ENZYME entry: EC 1.6.3.3

Accepted Name
NADH oxidase (H(2)O(2)-forming).
Alternative Name(s)
H(2)O(2)-forming NADH oxidase.
Reaction catalysed
NADH + O(2) <=> NAD(+) + H(2)O(2)
Cofactor(s)
FAD.
Comment(s)
  • The bacterium Streptococcus mutans contains two distinct NADH oxidases, a H(2)O(2)-forming enzyme and a H(2)O-forming enzyme (cf. EC 1.6.3.4).
  • The enzymes from the anaerobic archaea Methanocaldococcus jannaschii and Pyrococcus furiosus also produce low amounts of H(2)O.
  • Unlike EC 1.6.3.1 it has no activity toward NADPH.
