- The reaction is catalyzed in the opposite direction.
- Since quinolinate is synthesized from L-tryptophan in eukaryotes,
but from L-aspartate in some prokaryotes, this is the first NAD(+)
biosynthesis enzyme shared by both eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
