ID 3.1.1.79 DE hormone-sensitive lipase. AN HSL. CA (1) a diacylglycerol + H2O = a fatty acid + a monoacylglycerol + H(+). CA (2) a triacylglycerol + H2O = a diacylglycerol + a fatty acid + H(+). CA (3) a monoacylglycerol + H2O = a fatty acid + glycerol + H(+). CC -!- This enzyme is a serine hydrolase. CC -!- Compared with other lipases, hormone-sensitive lipase has a uniquely CC broad substrate specificity. CC -!- It hydrolyzes all acylglycerols (triacylglycerol, diacylglycerol and CC monoacylglycerol) as well as cholesteryl esters, steroid fatty acid CC esters, retinyl esters and p-nitrophenyl esters. CC -!- It exhibits a preference for the 1- or 3-ester bond of its CC acylglycerol substrate compared with the 2-ester bond. CC -!- The enzyme shows little preference for the fatty acids in the CC triacylglycerol, although there is some increase in activity with CC decreasing chain length. CC -!- The enzyme activity is increased in response to hormones that elevate CC intracellular levels of cAMP.
