ENZYME entry: EC 4.1.1.108

Accepted Name
4-hydroxyphenylacetaldehyde synthase
Reaction catalysed
H(+) + H2O + L-tyrosine + O2 <=> (4-hydroxyphenyl)acetaldehyde + CO2 + H2O2 + NH4(+)
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme, isolated from the the plant Petroselinum crispum (parsley), catalyzes the production of 4-hydroxyphenylacetaldehyde directly from L-tyrosine.
  • Tyramine is not formed as an intermediate.
  • The enzyme has a low activity with L-dopa (cf. EC 4.1.1.107).
