CA   ATP + L-histidine + beta-alanine = ADP + phosphate + carnosine.
CC   -!- This enzyme was thought to form AMP, but studies with highly purified
CC       enzyme proved that it forms ADP.
CC   -!- Carnosine is a dipeptide that is present at high concentrations in
CC       skeletal muscle and the olfactory bulb of vertebrates.
CC   -!- It is also found in the skeletal muscle of some invertebrates.
CC   -!- The enzyme can also catalyze the formation of homocarnosine from
CC       4-aminobutyrate and L-histidine, with much lower activity.
