ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 1.14.14.152

Accepted Name
beta-amyrin 11-oxidase
Alternative Name(s)
CYP88D6
Reaction catalysed
beta-amyrin + 2 O2 + 2 reduced [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] = 11-oxo-beta-amyrin + 2 H(+) + 3 H2O + 2 oxidized [NADPH--hemoprotein reductase]
Comment(s)
  • A cytochrome P450 (heme-thiolate) protein from the plant Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Chinese licorice) that participates in the glycyrrhizin biosynthesis pathway.
  • The enzyme is also able to oxidize 30-hydroxy-beta-amyrin to 11alpha,30-dihydroxy-beta-amyrin but this is not thought to be part of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis.
  • Formerly EC 1.14.13.134.
