ID 1.17.5.1 DE phenylacetyl-CoA dehydrogenase. AN phenylacetyl-CoA:acceptor oxidoreductase. CA 2 a ubiquinone + H2O + phenylacetyl-CoA = 2 a ubiquinol + CA phenylglyoxylyl-CoA. CC -!- The enzyme is specific for phenylacetyl-CoA as substrate. CC -!- Phenylacetate, acetyl-CoA, benzoyl-CoA, propanoyl-CoA, crotonyl-CoA, CC succinyl-CoA and 3-hydroxybenzoyl-CoA cannot act as substrates. CC -!- The oxygen atom introduced into the product, phenylglyoxylyl-CoA, CC is derived from water and not molecular oxygen. CC -!- Duroquinone, menaquinone and 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol (DCPIP) can CC act as acceptor, but the likely physiological acceptor is ubiquinone. CC -!- A second enzyme, EC 3.1.2.25 converts the phenylglyoxylyl-CoA formed CC into phenylglyoxylate. //
