ENZYME entry: EC 1.3.7.14

Accepted Name
3,8-divinyl chlorophyllide a reductase
Reaction catalysed
ADP + bacteriochlorophyllide g + 2 oxidized [2Fe-2S]-[ferredoxin] + phosphate = 3,8-divinyl chlorophyllide a + ATP + H(+) + H2O + 2 reduced [2Fe-2S]-[ferredoxin]
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme, found only in bacteriochlorophyll b-producing bacteria, catalyzes the introduction of a C-8 ethylidene group.
  • The enzyme contains a [4Fe-4S] cluster, and structurally resembles the Fe protein/MoFe protein complex of nitrogenase.
  • It is very similar to EC 1.3.7.15 and is composed of three subunits.
  • Two of them form the catalytic component, while the third one functions as an ATP-dependent reductase component that catalyzes the electron transfer from ferredoxin to the catalytic component.
