ID 1.5.3.13 DE N(1)-acetylpolyamine oxidase. AN PAO. AN polyamine oxidase. CA (1) H2O + N(1)-acetylspermidine + O2 = 3-acetamidopropanal + H2O2 + CA putrescine. CA (2) H2O + N(1)-acetylspermine + O2 = 3-acetamidopropanal + H2O2 + CA spermidine. CC -!- The enzyme also catalyzes the reaction: N(1),N(12)-diacetylspermine + CC O2 + H2O = N(1)-acetylspermidine + 3-acetamamidopropanal + H2O2. CC -!- No or very weak activity with spermine, or spermidine in absence of CC aldehydes. CC -!- In presence of aldehydes the enzyme catalyzes the reactions: 1. CC -!- spermine + O2 + H2O = spermidine + 3-aminopropanal + H2O2, and with CC weak efficiency 2. CC -!- spermidine + O2 + H2O = putrescine + 3-aminopropanal + H2O2. CC -!- Found in mammalian peroxisomes and oxidizes N(1)-acetylated CC polyamines at the exo (three-carbon) side of the secondary amine, CC forming 3-acetamamidopropanal. CC -!- Since the products of the reactions are deacetylated polyamines, this CC process is known as polyamine back-conversion. CC -!- Differs in specificity from EC 1.5.3.14, EC 1.5.3.15, EC 1.5.3.16 and CC EC 1.5.3.17. CC -!- Formerly EC 1.5.3.11, EC 1.5.3.n3, EC 1.5.3.n4 and EC 1.5.3.n10.
