ENZYME entry: EC 2.1.1.203
Accepted Name |
tRNA (cytosine(34)-C(5))-methyltransferase.
|
Reaction catalysed |
cytidine(34) in tRNA precursor + S-adenosyl-L-methionine <=> 5-methylcytidine(34) in tRNA precursor + H(+) + S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine |
Comment(s) |
- The human enzyme is specific for C(5)-methylation of cytosine(34) in
tRNA precursors.
- The intron in the human pre-tRNA(Leu)(CAA) is indispensable for the
C(5)-methylation of cytosine in the first position of the anticodon.
- It is not able to form 5-methylcytosine at positions 48 and 49 of
human and yeast tRNA precursors.
- Formerly EC 2.1.1.29.
