ENZYME entry: EC 2.1.1.204
Accepted Name |
tRNA (cytosine(38)-C(5))-methyltransferase.
|
Reaction catalysed |
S-adenosyl-L-methionine + cytosine(38) in tRNA <=> S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + 5-methylcytosine(38) in tRNA |
Comment(s) |
- The eukaryotic enzyme catalyzes methylation of cytosine(38) in the
anti-codon loop of tRNA(Asp)(GTC), tRNA(Val)(AAC) and tRNA(Gly)(GCC).
- Methylation by Dnmt2 protects tRNAs against stress-induced cleavage
by ribonuclease.
- Formerly EC 2.1.1.29.
