The eukaryotic enzyme can act on non-reducing O-serine-linked N-acetylgalactosamine residues in mucin glycoproteins, forming the T-antigen.
The bacterial enzyme, found in some pathogenic strains, is involved in biosynthesis of the O-antigen repeating unit.
