A new class EC 7, Translocases, has been added to the EC list. It will be part of ENZYME from release 2018_10. Read more about EC 7 here.

ENZYME entry: EC 2.7.7.92

Accepted Name
3-deoxy-D-glycero-D-galacto-nononate cytidylyltransferase.
Reaction catalysed
CTP + 3-deoxy-D-glycero-beta-D-galacto-non-2-ulopyranosonate <=> diphosphate + CMP-3-deoxy-D-glycero-beta-D-galacto-non-2-ulopyranosonate
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme is part of the biosynthesis pathway of the sialic acid 3-deoxy-D-glycero-beta-D-galacto-non-2-ulopyranosonate (Kdn).
  • Kdn is abundant in extracellular glycoconjugates of lower vertebrates such as fish and amphibians, but is also found in the capsular polysaccharides of bacteria that belong to the Bacteroides genus.
