ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 2.8.4.2

Accepted Name
arsenate-mycothiol transferase
Reaction catalysed
arsenate + mycothiol = arseno-mycothiol + H2O
Comment(s)
  • Reduction of arsenate is part of a defense mechanism of the cell against toxic arsenate.
  • The product arseno-mycothiol is reduced by EC 1.20.4.3 (mycoredoxin) to arsenite and mycothiol-mycoredoxin disulfide.
  • Finally, a second mycothiol recycles mycoredoxin and forms mycothione.
