ENZYME entry: EC 3.4.17.23
Accepted Name |
Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2.
|
Alternative Name(s) |
ACE2. |
Angiotensin converting enzyme 2. |
Angiotensin converting enzyme-2. |
Reaction catalysed |
Angiotensin II + H(2)O <=> angiotensin-(1-7) + L-phenylalanine |
Comment(s) |
- A transmembrane glycoprotein with an extracellular catalytic domain.
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 functions as a carboxypeptidase,
cleaving a single C-terminal residue from a distinct range of
substrates.
- Catalytic efficiency is 400-fold higher with angiotensin II (1-8) as
a substrate than with angiotensin I (1-10).
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 also efficiently hydrolyzes des-
Arg(9)-bradykinin, but it does not hydrolyze bradykinin.
- Belongs to peptidase family M2.
