ENZYME entry: EC 3.6.1.73

Accepted Name
Inosine/xanthosine triphosphatase.
Reaction catalysed
  • Inosine 5'-triphosphate + H(2)O <=> inosine 5'-diphosphate + phosphate
  • Xanthosine 5'-triphosphate + H(2)O <=> xanthosine 5'-diphosphate + phosphate
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme, characterized from the bacterium Escherichia coli, preferentially hydrolyzes inosine triphosphate and xanthosine triphosphate, which are formed by oxidative deamination damage.
  • By hydrolyzing these damaged nucleotides, the enzyme prevents their incorporation into RNA.
