ID 4.2.2.11 DE guluronate-specific alginate lyase. AN alginase II. AN poly(alpha-L-guluronate) lyase. CA Eliminative cleavage of alginate to give oligosaccharides with 4-deoxy- CA alpha-L-erythro-hex-4-enuronosyl groups at their non-reducing ends and CA alpha-L-guluronate at their reducing end. CC -!- The enzyme catalyzes the degradation of alginate by a beta- CC elimination reaction. CC -!- It cleaves the (1->4) bond between alpha-L-guluronate and either CC alpha-L-guluronate or beta-D-mannuronate, generating oligosaccharides CC with 4-deoxy-alpha-L-erythro-hex-4-enuronosyl groups at their non- CC reducing ends and alpha-L-guluronate at the reducing end. CC -!- Depending on the composition of the substrate, the enzyme produces CC oligosaccharides ranging from two to six residues, with preference CC for shorter products. cf. EC 4.2.2.3. //
