CC   -!- This class II terpene synthase produces syn-copalyl diphosphate,
CC       a precursor of several rice phytoalexins, including oryzalexin S and
CC       momilactones A and B.
CC   -!- Phytoalexins are diterpenoid secondary metabolites that are involved
CC       in the defense mechanism of the plant, and are produced in response
CC       to pathogen attack through the perception of elicitor signal
CC       molecules such as chitin oligosaccharide, or after exposure to UV
CC       irradiation.
CC   -!- Constitutively expressed in the roots of plants where one of its
CC       products, momilactone B, acts as an allelochemical (a molecule
CC       released into the environment to suppress the growth of neighboring
CC       plants).
CC   -!- In other tissues the enzyme is up-regulated by conditions that
CC       stimulate the biosynthesis of phytoalexins.
