ENZYME entry: EC 1.11.1.20

Accepted Name
Prostamide/prostaglandin F(2-alpha) synthase.
Alternative Name(s)
Prostamide F synthase.
Prostamide/PGF synthase.
Prostamide/prostaglandin F synthase.
TPGF synthase.
Reaction catalysed
Thioredoxin + prostaglandin H(2) <=> thioredoxin disulfide + prostaglandin F(2-alpha)
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme contains a thioredoxin-type disulfide as a catalytic group.
  • Prostamide H(2) and prostaglandin H(2) are the best substrates; the latter is converted to prostaglandin F(2-alpha).
  • The enzyme also reduces tert-butyl hydroperoxide, cumene hydroperoxide and H(2)O(2), but not prostaglandin D(2) or prostaglandin E(2).
