ENZYME entry: EC

Accepted Name
Carotenoid 1,2-hydratase.
Reaction catalysed
  • 1-hydroxy-1,2-dihydrolycopene <=> lycopene + H(2)O
  • 1,1'-dihydroxy-1,1',2,2'-tetrahydrolycopene <=> 1-hydroxy-1,2-dihydrolycopene + H(2)O
  • In Rubrivivax gelatinosus and Thiocapsa roseopersicina both products are formed, whereas Rhodobacter capsulatus only gives 1-hydroxy-1,2- dihydrolycopene.
  • Also acts on neurosporene giving 1-hydroxy-1,2-dihydroneurosporene with both organisms but 1,1'-dihydroxy- 1,1',2,2'-tetrahydroneurosporene only with Rubrivivax gelatinosus.
