ENZYME entry: EC 6.1.1.25
| Accepted Name |
| Lysine--tRNA(Pyl) ligase.
|
| Reaction catalysed |
| ATP + L-lysine + tRNA(Pyl) <=> AMP + diphosphate + L-lysyl-tRNA(Pyl) |
| Comment(s) |
- In organisms such as Methanosarcina barkeri that incorporate the
modified amino acid pyrrolysine (Pyl) into certain methylamine
methyltransferases, an unusual tRNA(Pyl), with a CUA anticodon,
is charged directly with pyrrolysine by this class II aminoacyl--tRNA
ligase.
- The tRNA and the ligase are encoded within the same gene cluster,
and the ligase does not appear to be closely related to EC 6.1.1.6.
