ENZYME entry: EC 1.1.2.10
Accepted Name |
Lanthanide-dependent methanol dehydrogenase.
|
Alternative Name(s) |
Ce(3+)-induced methanol dehydrogenase. |
Cerium dependent MDH. |
La(3+)-dependent MDH. |
Reaction catalysed |
Methanol + 2 oxidized cytochrome c(L) <=> formaldehyde + 2 reduced cytochrome c(L) |
Comment(s) |
- Isolated from the bacterium Methylacidiphilum fumariolicum and many
Methylobacterium species.
- Requires La(3+), Ce(3+), Pr(3+) or Nd(3+).
- The higher lanthanides show decreasing activity with Sm(3+), Eu(3+)
and Gd(3+).
- The lanthanide is coordinated by the enzyme and pyrroloquinoline
quinone.
- Shows little activity with Ca(2+), the required cofactor of
EC 1.1.2.7.
