ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 1.17.7.1

Accepted Name
(E)-4-hydroxy-3-methylbut-2-enyl-diphosphate synthase (ferredoxin)
Alternative Name(s)
(E)-4-hydroxy-3-methylbut-2-enyl diphosphate synthase
4-hydroxy-3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl diphosphate synthase
Reaction catalysed
(2E)-4-hydroxy-3-methylbut-2-enyl diphosphate + H2O + 2 oxidized [2Fe-2S]-[ferredoxin] = 2-C-methyl-D-erythritol 2,4-cyclic diphosphate + H(+) + 2 reduced [2Fe-2S]-[ferredoxin]
Comment(s)
  • Forms part of an alternative non-mevalonate pathway for isoprenoid biosynthesis.
  • Bacteria have a similar enzyme that uses flavodoxin rather than ferredoxin (cf. EC 1.17.7.3).
  • The enzyme from the plant Arabidopsis thaliana is active with photoreduced 5-deazaflavin but not with flavodoxin.
  • Formerly EC 1.17.4.3.
