ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 1.3.1.128

Accepted Name
precondylocarpine acetate reductase
Alternative Name(s)
dihydroprecondylocarpine acetate synthase
Reaction catalysed
dihydroprecondylocarpine acetate + NADP(+) = precondylocarpine acetate + NADPH + H(+)
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme, characterized from the plant Catharanthus roseus (Madagascar periwinkle), participates in a pathway that leads to the production of a number of monoterpene alkaloids, as well as the bisindole alkaloids vinblastine and vincristine, which are used as anticancer drugs.
  • The enzyme forms the iminium ion form of dihydroprecondylocarpine acetate, which spontaneously rearranges and undergoes deacylation, producing dehydrosecodine.
