ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 1.7.1.15

Accepted Name
nitrite reductase (NADH)
Alternative Name(s)
assimilatory nitrite reductase
NADH-nitrite oxidoreductase
nitrite reductase (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide)
Reaction catalysed
2 H2O + 3 NAD(+) + NH4(+) <=> 5 H(+) + 3 NADH + nitrite
Comment(s)
  • This prokaryotic enzyme is specific for NADH.
  • In addition to catalyzing the 6-electron reduction of nitrite to ammonia, the enzyme from Escherichia coli can also catalyze the 2-electron reduction of hydroxylamine to ammonia. cf. EC 1.7.1.4.
