ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 2.7.1.164

Accepted Name
O-phosphoseryl-tRNA(Sec) kinase
Alternative Name(s)
L-seryl-tRNA(Sec) kinase
PSTK
Reaction catalysed
ATP + L-seryl-tRNA(Sec) <=> ADP + O-phospho-L-seryl-tRNA(Sec)
Comment(s)
  • In archaea and eukarya selenocysteine formation is achieved by a two- step process: O-phosphoseryl-tRNA(Sec) kinase (PSTK) phosphorylates the endogenous L-seryl-tRNA(Sec) to O-phospho-L-seryl-tRNA(Sec), and then this misacylated amino acid-tRNA species is converted to L-selenocysteinyl-tRNA(Sec) by EC 2.9.1.2.
  • Formerly EC 2.7.1.n3.
