ENZYME entry: EC 3.2.1.123

Accepted Name
endoglycosylceramidase
Alternative Name(s)
endo-glucosylceramidase
endoglycoceramidase
oligoglycosylglucosylceramide glycohydrolase
Reaction catalysed
an oligoglycosyl-(1->4)-beta-D-glucosyl-(1<->1)-ceramide + H2O = an N-acyl-sphingoid base + an oligoglycosyl-(1->4)-D-glucose
Comment(s)
  • An enzyme from Rhodococcus sp. which degrades various acidic and neutral glycosphingolipids to oligosaccharides and ceramides, by cleaving a glucosyl bond.
  • Does not act on monoglycosylceramides (cf. EC 3.2.1.62).
