ENZYME entry: EC 4.2.2.28

Accepted Name
alpha-L-rhamnosyl-(1->4)-beta-D-glucuronate lyase
Alternative Name(s)
L-rhamnose-alpha-1,4-D-glucuronate lyase
Reaction catalysed
an alpha-L-rhamnose-(1->4)-beta-D-glucuronide <=> alpha-L-rhamnopyranose + a 4-deoxy-alpha-L-threo-hex-4-enopyranuronoside
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme, characterized from the phytopathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum, removes the rhamnosyl residue from alpha-L-rhamnosyl- (1->4)-beta-D-glucuronate or from oligosaccharides that contain this motif at the non-reducing end, leaving an unsaturated glucuronate residue.
  • Among its natural substrates is the type II arabinogalactan component of gum arabic.
