A new class EC 7, Translocases, has been added to the EC list. It will be part of ENZYME from release 2018_10. Read more about EC 7 here.

ENZYME entry: EC 1.14.14.75

Accepted Name
Fenbendazole monooxygenase (4'-hydroxylating).
Alternative Name(s)
CYP2C19.
Reaction catalysed
Fenbendazole + [reduced NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + O(2) <=> 4'-hydroxyfenbendazole + [oxidized NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + H(2)O
Comment(s)
  • CYP2C19 is microsomal cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that catalyzes the hydroxylation of the benzene ring of fenbendazole, a broad- spectrum anthelmintic used against gastrointestinal nematodes and the larval stages of cestodes.
  • This activity is also carried out by CYP2J2.
  • Cf. EC 1.14.14.74.
  • CYP2C19 does not act on albendazole.
