ENZYME entry: EC 2.1.1.322

Accepted Name
type IV protein arginine methyltransferase
Reaction catalysed
L-arginyl-[protein] + S-adenosyl-L-methionine <=> H(+) + N(5)-methyl-L-arginyl-[protein] + S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine
Comment(s)
  • This enzyme, characterized from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, methylates the the Delta-nitrogen atom of arginine residues within proteins.
  • Among its substrates are Arg(67) of the ribosomal protein L12. cf. EC 2.1.1.319, EC 2.1.1.320 and EC 2.1.1.321.
  • Formerly EC 2.1.1.23, EC 2.1.1.124, EC 2.1.1.125 and EC 2.1.1.126.
