  • The enzyme, which is involved in methanogenesis from glycine betaine, catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group bound to the cobalt cofactor of glycine betaine-specific corrinoid protein to coenzyme M, forming the substrate for EC 2.8.4.1, which catalyzes the final step in methanogenesis.
  • The enzyme from the methanogenic archaeon Methanolobus vulcani B1d can also catalyze the activity of EC 2.1.1.246.
