ENZYME entry: EC 3.1.3.80

Accepted Name
2,3-bisphosphoglycerate 3-phosphatase
Alternative Name(s)
2,3-BPG 3-phosphatase
Reaction catalysed
(2R)-2,3-bisphosphoglycerate + H2O = (2R)-2-phosphoglycerate + phosphate
Comment(s)
  • This reaction is a shortcut in the Rapoport-Luebering shunt.
  • It bypasses the reactions of EC 5.4.2.11/EC 5.4.2.12 and directly forms 2-phospho-Dglycerate by removing the 3-phospho-group of 2,3- diphospho-Dglycerate.
  • The MIPP1 protein also catalyzes the reaction of EC 3.1.3.62.
