ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 7.2.2.1

Accepted Name
Na(+)-transporting two-sector ATPase
Alternative Name(s)
ATP synthase, sodium ion specific
Na(+)-translocating ATPase
sodium-transporting two-sector ATPase
Reaction catalysed
ATP + H2O + 4 Na(+)(in) <=> ADP + H(+) + 4 Na(+)(out) + phosphate
Comment(s)
  • A multisubunit ATPase transporter found in some halophilic or alkalophilic bacteria that functions in maintaining sodium homeostasis.
  • The enzyme is similar to EC 7.1.2.2 but pumps Na(+) rather than H(+). cf. EC 7.2.2.3 and EC 7.2.2.4.
  • Formerly EC 3.6.3.15.
