ENZYME entry: EC 2.1.1.375

PURL: https://purl.expasy.org/enzyme/EC/2.1.1.375
Accepted Name
NNS virus cap methyltransferase
Reaction catalysed
a 5'-end (5'-triphosphoguanosine)-adenylyl-adenylyl-cytidylyl-adenosine in mRNA + 2 S-adenosyl-L-methionine = a 5'-end (N(7)-methyl 5'-triphosphoguanosine)-(2'-O-methyladenylyl)-adenylyl-cytidylyl-adenosine in mRNA + 2 S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + H(+)
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme from non-segmented negative strain (NNS) viruses (e.g. rhabdoviruses) catalyzes two successive methylations.
  • In higher eukaryotes the two methylations occur in the reverse order and are catalyzed by two different enzymes (cf. EC 2.1.1.56 and EC 2.1.1.57) that do not required a specific motif.
