A new class EC 7, Translocases, has been added to the EC list. It will be part of ENZYME from release 2018_10. Read more about EC 7 here.

ENZYME entry: EC 4.1.1.108

Accepted Name
4-hydroxyphenylacetaldehyde synthase.
Reaction catalysed
L-tyrosine + O(2) + H(2)O <=> (4-hydroxyphenyl)acetaldehyde + CO(2) + NH(3) + H(2)O(2)
Cofactor(s)
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate.
Comment(s)
  • The enzyme, isolated from the the plant Petroselinum crispum (parsley), catalyzes the production of 4-hydroxyphenylacetaldehyde directly from L-tyrosine.
  • Tyramine is not formed as an intermediate.
  • The enzyme has a low activity with L-dopa (cf. EC 4.1.1.107).
